12 - Christ Values # 3: Harmlessness
Ten ideas of Christ
Idea Three: Harmlessness
Here is Idea Three that Christ gave in His Teachings: The power of harmlessness
Harmlessness is an inner idea that we live by. Before judging others and gossiping about others, we put ourselves in their shoes. We try to understand their perspective. We give respect to others. This starts with harmelssness toward ourselves and then to our immediate family and children. To look at every person in our family with eyes of harmlessness is hugely beneficial for us and builds right relations with each person. Can we extend this to our work environment? It gets harder as we move our intentions outside of our family. But this is what Christ was teaching us, to be harmless with others. Can we live by these standards?
Here is an exerpt about harmlessness.
The third thread is harmlessness. Christ said something so beautiful two thousand years ago. He presented a great value when He said not only don’t kill people, but also if you hurt any man with your words, you will be taken to court in heaven.
Look at the standard. Look at the standard He is putting in front of humanity. If humanity obeyed even two percent, forget the ninety-eight percent, if people knew how to hold their tongues, not to hurt each other, look what a psychological change will happen in humanity. But who cares about these values? That is why we are in danger of annihilating each other. You do not care, but your boat is approaching the Niagara Falls. Still you do not care. But when you are dumped, then you will care.
This is what is happening. People do not realize in what a great danger they are living. Read the military news. What do you hear? Christ did not say prepare and prepare and prepare, load yourself with microbes and gases and bombs, and be ready to kill each other. He did not say that. What did He say? Be harmless!
Even do not kill the bird that is singing. Isn’t that beautiful?
Harmlessness is reverent. It is the reverence, the respect of the divinity within you. If you are my brother, I respect you because of our Father. Because of our Father, I cannot harm you. Look how simple it is. It is not philosophy. Sometimes we think that we know all these things, so why are we hearing these things again and again? Who cares if you know about them. Are you doing them?
The Teaching says that avoiding any actions that hurt people, by killing them or wounding them, is not enough. Also you must be very careful about your thoughts. You will be harmless even in your thoughts so that you do not send dirty or criminal thoughts to others, because your thoughts are electrical and they affect people.
Look what a challenging sublimation is given to us, what a pattern is given to us! If we strive toward that pattern, then we are improving our lives. If we are not striving toward that pattern, we are becoming animals. Yes. Do not think that humanity is going to be automatically human. Many times in the history of humanity degeneration came and people became beasts.
....The words of Christ are so simple, but they are the foundation. Look at how a house is built. It is so complicated, with all its parts...but take the house away, and the simplest thing is the foundation. The whole structure is built on that simplicity. The whole structure of human life is built on the simplicity of the words, the patterns.
