Regarding UN World Refugee Day, June 20th

It is mind boggling how human beings have abused other human beings throughout time. Read the history of any country, any religion, any nation and you will see vast abuses hurled at other human beings, all the while tolerated and even encouraged by their brethren of culture, religion, nation, and region. Why is this?
In this day and age, when we think of ourselves as so cultured and civilized, we still have the problem of refugees, the majority of which are women and children, with no home, no food, and no security, thrown out into the deserts of life.

Some women and children may even have a home and clothes and education, but they are still refugees, seeking safety and comfort, thrown into the deserts of life in other, more sinister ways.

Today, in my first blog, I will focus on the place of the woman in society.

There is a great need for the dignified treatment of women. There is also a great need for women to see themselves in dignified ways. Humanity is woefully lacking in these respects.

The need for dignity and beauty for all women in the world is as real now as it was 100 years ago. Although women have made tremendous changes in the last Century, their plight in many societies is as dire now as it ever was.

All over the world, women are demeaned in subtle and not so subtle ways. Female babies are the first to be aborted or given up to adoption. Little girls are sold. Women are held in perpetual slavery and servitude. They are demeaned, threatened, turned away from medical care and education. They are shunned and treated as objects. Women carry the burden of their families without recognition and without rights. Worse yet, in deeply held beliefs, women are seen as deceivers, the temptresses, and seductresses from whom men need to be protected! They are treated as objects and not as fully human.

Even in so-called modern or economically developed societies, women are abused in many subtle ways. The objectification of women is not just the privy of “uncivilized” or “undeveloped” societies.

What happens to a society when there aren’t enough women to go around? What happens when a large percentage of women in any society are marginalized and objectified? What happens when little girls serve as prostitutes and are simply thrown out of the creative fabric of society? What happens to the boys and men who are brought up by such wounded and desperate women? Perhaps real women would be such a scarce commodity that they will be sought after and respected! Imagine that!!

Women are the life givers. Women are not like men, nor they should be. Women have a special role in the family and in society. Women are leaders and nurturers and can be anything they want to be. They are the rightful partners to all of life. The health of any society is measured by the dignity afforded to its women.

We need to know how to empower our women and change the thoughtforms of humanity that are based on self-hatred. When a woman in any family or society is mistreated, it is because the perpetrators hate themselves. They hate who they are so they abuse those who gave birth to them and give meaning to their life. They feel that by abusing that which gave birth to them, they will somehow be healed of the self-hatred.

On the other hand, abused and mistreated women will hate themselves! This makes them uphold the entrenched cultural, religious, societal abuses and become willing victims. In turn, they will give birth to and bring up children who are also hateful and deprecate the givers of life. What a vicious cycle!

Bring dignity and beauty into humanity by upholding the rights of every woman in your life. It starts with you, in your private life and in your family life. Let us be united in our love of freedom and dignity for all women all over the world.

I will make ongoing comments on these and similar subjects. I welcome your thoughts…
