71 - The Call To Change Your Life!
There is an unforgettable moment in our life when something happened to us that moved us in a new direction internally and then, slowly, externally. We never forget that moment, the wake-up call that changed our life forever.
The Wisdom Teachings tell us that the Father in Heaven, or the Creative Force in the Universe, is communicating directly with us and sending out “calls” to bring us back home. It is the “sound”, the voice of the Creator. It is sound that creates and it is sound that traces the path of return for us. It is this “call” that eventually leads us through experiences to become fully conscious souls. We resurrect, we become fully alive; the pull of matter and karma no longer have a hold over us.
God communicates by calling us back home. In how many ways does He call us? How many meanings do our voices have and how much do we communicate through sound alone?
If we listen intently to someone speaking to us, we can understand what the person is really saying. The words may be one thing; the meaning something different. The voice carries so much meaning and energy. If we cultivate inner discernment, we can understand how we ourselves communicate. Most importantly, we can then train our ears to hear the voice of God in everyday events and everyday sounds.
The story of the prodigal son is an example of the call that changed a life. There is another lovely story of the lioness who gives up her cub to a shepherd for safety from predators. The cub grows up into a nice lion but acts just like a sheep. One day, the mother decides it is time to call the cub back to his true heritage. She stands on top of a mountain and lets out a roar! The cub, now a teenager, hears the call and runs up the hill to become a real lion once again! So, mom can call us back too!
That Creative Force, or Father in heaven, or God, is continuously sending out “Calls” that trace our path of return. When we hear the sound and respond to it, we begin the journey back home through the process of conscious evolution. Individually we have to awaken and respond. No one can do it for us. We have to find our true self, our true being, our true purpose and our true direction through our own efforts.
Every life form evolves. We can do it either through pain and suffering and continue to be thrashed around by life. Or, we can become conscious of the causes and effects and begin to make proactive decisions.
The survival of fittest in Darwinian terms is also relevant in the spiritual traditions. When we are fit and adapt to the demands of life physically, emotionally, and mentally, we have a better chance at surviving and living a more meaningful and healthy life. Better yet, as we build our higher bodies and our higher consciousness, we have a better chance at surviving all the crises and challenges in life and we truly become alive. In every incarnation, we build on what we had built in the previous life. In every life, we not only meet the challenges on multiple levels, but thrive and grow despite the material obstacles.
We are not really “alive” unless we become conscious in the material and subtle worlds as well. We are multi-dimensional beings. So, strictly being alive in the physical sense does not mean we are truly alive. Many people live physically but are fully unconscious. Many are dead emotionally; they simply do not feel their own or others' feelings. Many people are dead mentally; they cannot think and reason and make choices that sustain life despite all of life's hints. Many people isolate themselves and make no connection to the lives of people around them; in their isolation, they are not really alive.
There are also people who are alive on the physical, emotional, and mental levels as well as on the subtle levels of existence. When such people pass away, they are alive in the subtle worlds and function consciously in the multiple levels.
Much of humanity not only lives without being truly alive in the physical-emotional-mental levels, but they are also asleep on the subtle levels. We do not become holy and special just because we pass away and go to the subtle worlds! If we were “asleep” while in physical incarnation, we will be asleep in the subtle worlds as well.
To become alive and develop the bodies that carry us to the subtle forms of existence is the path of conscious evolution. This process begins the moment we hear “the call” from the greater sources of the universe. These “calls” are deeply moving in that a tiny little hint, a simple realization, will make a huge impact on our life and turn our life around. A seemingly insignificant connection will be remembered and will sustain us throughout the travails of life. It is important to remember and recognize the various “calls” your life has brought to you. It is empowering to recall how your life's experiences are connected and make you who you are today.
I gave a lecture on what is “The Call” and how it relates to the process of resurrection. The spiritual Teachings say that “resurrection is the answer to a great call.” Below is an excerpt from that lecture.
Write to me and share your stories of how and when you heard that “call” that made you change your life. What was it that sustained you through the difficulties of life?
I would love to hear from you.
Enjoy!
